The Mentalist is a police drama full of action and adventure which premiered on the CBS Network on 23rd September 2008. The series is created by Bruno Heller, directed by Chris Long and David Nutter and produced by Warner Bros. Television. Looking at its popularity series was ordered for a full season by CBS on 15th October 2008. The series revolves around a well known psychic Patrick Jane who has changed his profession to work as an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation. He lost his wife and daughter five years ago when they were killed by the serial killer Red John while Jane was helping the department to nab him. Jane is infamous within the department for his lack of etiquette, and his abilities as a psychic due to which he forces the offenders and witnesses in revealing the actual facts of the case before him. However senior agent Teresa Lisbon is not in favor of having him as a part of her unit, although she acknowledges that Jane has been useful to her team in solving many tough and high profile cases. She does not let go of any opportunity to criticize him for his vanity, theatrics and lack of knowledge about his limits.

The other members of the team which include agents Kimball Cho, Wayne Rigsby and a new recruit Grace Van Pelt think Jane to be dangerous but appreciate his ability to solve cases. Even though the show has been compared to another psychic related show, called Psych, The Mentalist has been received well by the audience and has earned a name for itself in a short span of time. As on 2nd December 2008, a total of nine episodes of the show have been aired with the 10th episode of season 1 to be aired on 9th December 2008.
